De WRR is een onafhankelijk adviesorgaan dat de regering en Staten-Generaal van gevraagd en ongevraagd advies voorziet over strategische vraagstukken op de lange termijn. Opgericht in 1972 (Wet op de WRR). Werkt op thema's die ministerie-overstijgend zijn: toekomst van de arbeidsmarkt, klimaatadaptatie, digitalisering van de publieke sector, zorg-houdbaarheid. Ambtelijk ondergebracht bij AZ maar bestuurlijk zelfstandig.
