Founded
1999
Het BFT werd op 1 oktober 1999 ingesteld op grond van de Wet op het notarisambt als zelfstandig bestuursorgaan. Sinds 2013 houdt het ook integraal toezicht op gerechtsdeurwaarders en is het Wwft-toezichthouder voor notarissen, deurwaarders en accountants.

Het Bureau Financieel Toezicht (BFT) houdt integraal toezicht op notarissen en gerechtsdeurwaarders en is daarnaast Wwft-toezichthouder op notarissen, accountants, belastingadviseurs en administratiekantoren. Het BFT toetst financiële soliditeit, kwaliteit en naleving van anti-witwasverplichtingen, en kan tuchtklachten indienen. De organisatie is gevestigd in Utrecht en wordt gefinancierd uit opslagen op de ondertoezichtstaande beroepen.
