Founded
1998
Staatsbosbeheer werd op 1 januari 1998 verzelfstandigd tot ZBO bij de Wet verzelfstandiging Staatsbosbeheer. De organisatie is in 1899 opgericht en beheert circa 270.000 hectare natuur, bos en landschap in Nederland.

Staatsbosbeheer beheert ruim 270.000 hectare natuurgebied, bos en cultuurlandschap in eigendom van de Staat en stelt deze gebieden zoveel mogelijk open voor recreatie. De organisatie werkt aan bosuitbreiding, herstel van biodiversiteit en duurzaam houtbeheer en verdient inkomsten uit pacht, hout en recreatie. Staatsbosbeheer is zelfstandig bestuursorgaan onder het ministerie van LVVN.
